THE EXPERIENCE:

The South African Jewish Museum is notable, on first glance, for its sleek interiors – but it doesn’t stop there. Within the museum are a range of interactive displays, audio-visual presentations and rare and fascinating artefacts which take visitors on a journey back to South African Jew’s earliest roots.

Learn about the history and heritage of the original Jews who settled in South Africa from Eastern Europe and elsewhere through a wonderful recreation of shtetl life and the cultural history of Jews, Jewish life and Judaism in general.

Through these exhibitions, you’ll discover just how this influential community was in part responsible for the making of the South Africa – economically, politically, and culturally – that we know today and who still thrives and impacts society at every level.

The museum is also home to one of the world’s finest collections of Netsuke (Japanese miniature art) which completes this wonderful parallel of the old and new, the historic and the contemporary, the religious and the worldly.
